Prof. Soumyo Mukherji was named director of BITS Pilani's Hyderabad campus for a period of five years today. He will succeed Prof. G. Sundar in leading the team. Mukherjee is currently employed at IIT Bombay as the Madhuri Sinha Chair Professor in Biomedical Engineering in the Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering. Additionally, he holds an associate faculty position at the Centre of Excellence in Nanoelectronics and the Centre for Research in Nanotechnology and Sciences.
On Wednesday, the Assam Cabinet authorised the reservation of three MBBS seats in the state's two medical institutions for citizens of Bhutan. At Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College and Hospital in Barpeta, one seat will be set aside for citizens of Bhutan, while two seats at Nalbari Medical College will be designated for them. This announcement comes after Dr. Jitendra Singh, the Minister of Science and Technology, paid the college a visit earlier this year.

The plan to create three new institutions by amending the UP State University Act, 1973 has been accepted by the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet. The purpose of the amendment bill is to establish Maa Pateshwari Devi State University in Gonda. Uttar Pradesh State University in Moradabad and Maa Vindhyavashini State University in Mirzapur. A bill to alter Sections 4, 50, and 52 of the UP State University Act, 1973 will be introduced in the Vidhan Sabha. In Uttar Pradesh, 34 state universities are currently in operation.
Beginning with the 2024–2025 academic year, the nation's medical colleges—both public and private—will be graded according to the calibre of instruction they offer. In July, an agreement was made between the Quality Council of India (QCI) and the National Medical Commission (NMC) regarding the evaluation of medical institution ratings. According to Dr. Yogendra Malik, a member of the NMC's Ethics and Medical Registration Board, only government medical colleges are currently required to take part in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF). Malik made this announcement on Tuesday.

Fourteen Banaras Hindu University research scholars have been granted the Prime Minister's Research Fellowship. The Institute of Environment and Sustainable Development, the departments of geology, chemistry, biochemistry, botany, and bioinformatics are home to the students. The researchers who have been chosen for the current PMRF cycle are: Ankita Gupta from the Institute of Environment and Sustainable Development, Garima Kandwal from the Department of Biochemistry, Prashasti Pandey from the Department of Botany; and Syona Tiwari from the Department of Bioinformatics. From the geology department, the researchers are Bandan Kumar, Aindabi Maitra, Kuhoo Madhav, R B Ananth, Raju Rai, and Sudipa Bhunia; and from the chemistry department, Deepika Sharma, Karmdeo Prajapati, Nikhil Srivastav, and Ritesh Tolani.
The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has extended the deadline for new admission to the July 2024 academic year. Students planning to apply for the July 2024 session of online distance learning (ODL) and online programs will now have another registration deadline. The revised deadline is 15th October 2024. Previously, the registration deadline for the ODL and online programmes was 30th September 2024.
