NIFT was set up at Delhi in 1986 and had only one programme of Fashion Design in its first year. The campus initially started functioning from a temporary two room set up in its formative years and shifted to a full-fledged campus in 1994. The building designed by Dr. B.V. Doshi is based on the concept of a central step-well to conserve rainwater, a traditional Indian Baoli and is listed as one of the modern Iconic architecture of Delhi.

NIFT Patna was started in June, 2008, from its transit campus situated in the prestigious Udyog Bhavan, Gandhi Maidan, Patna and from July 2014 it has start functioning from its own permanent campus at Mithapur Farms, Patna.

Gandhinagar

The NIFT Campus at Gandhinagar, considered to be perhaps the greenest city in India, was established in 1995 at a temporary campus building allotted by Govt. of Gujarat at Sector 26, Gandhinagar. Later Government of Gujarat allotted a plot of 20,000 sq.mt. land for NIFT Gandhinagar’s permanent Campus near Infocity which became operational in February 2004. An additional 10,000 sq. mt. land was allotted for the Girls’ Hostel, Director’s Bungalow and Staff Quarters.

Hyderabad

The NIFT Hyderabad campus sits between India’s IT hub - Hi-tech city and the state craft village, Shilparamam; appropriately epitomizing one of its core mottos, tradition meets modernity.
