Uncertainty surrounds the much-anticipated launch of Odia University in July of this year. Despite the fact that admissions for the upcoming academic session will begin in a few months, the Higher Education department has yet to include the new university in its SAMS e-admission site for 2023-24. Furthermore, the Common PG Entrance Test (CPET) to admit students to the university for the next session is yet to be announced.

On May 31, this year, officials from the department met with chief secretary Pradeep Jena in Satyabadi in Puri to discuss the early operationalization of Odia University. As a result, earlier this month, the department said that the institution would be opened in the first week of July and that admissions would be completed by then.

However, with only four days till the end of the month, the department has yet to declare the CPET schedule for admission to Odia University. The State Selection Board, on the other hand, has been conducting the CPET for admission to other public universities and degree schools since June 23, and the test will continue through July 4.

Every year, the academic session for first-year PG students begins in September.  The New Indian Express contacted Higher Education Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak about the delay in the admission exams and the establishment of the new university, but he did not respond. In October 2018, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik lay the groundwork for the Odia University in Satyabadi.
