Hey folks, listen up! First things first, I’m not some influencer or celebrity getting free sponsored trips—let’s clear that air. My story is a little different. So, let’s rewind to the pre-COVID era, back when sanitisers weren’t something we carried in our pockets (correct me if I’m wrong!). It’s November 5th, 2018, exactly the day after our third semester exams wrapped up. That’s when the big Announcement made me more popular! Our department dean casually announced, "So, you all need to plan an excursion trip and Adya will lead you all."
Remember how we all imagined our college life as this wild Bollywood blockbuster? Picture this: dramatic slow-mo entrances, hair flips that could put any shampoo ad to shame, and epic love stories unfolding under twinkling lights.
We’ve all planned trips that never happen during our student life—unless it’s a so-called educational trip or some “oh-so-important” excursion. But how many of you relate to this? “Goa chalte hein yaar”—a phrase every friend group has heard at least a hundred times. I’m no different. So today, I’m sharing the tragic saga of our ill-fated Goa trip. After navigating the emotional pyaar bhari dhamkiyan from my mom (“Woh Goa wale bacche ache nahi hote!”), my dad’s financial lectures (“Do you think money grows on trees?”), and the constant tang Adana by siblings (“If you go, I’m telling Mom you failed that test”), we finally made a pact. Fourteen of us—10 boys and four girls—decided it was now or never: A grand five-day trip to Goa!
"Qrrrrrr…"The door clamps screeched. Oh no, not again."Riya, did you hear that?!" I whispered, tugging at her blanket, heart pounding like I had just failed an exam. "I think it's her again."Riya, my ever-chilled-out roommate, barely opened an eye. "Yaa, Sohini, it’s just the wind. Sone de," she muttered. But I knew better. Ever since that one night, we were convinced—humare hostel mein bhoot hai.

I’m sure all of us, especially those who grew up in the 90s, can relate to this one universal truth – Indian parents and their never-ending, all-encompassing wish list for their children. Whether you’re Sunu, Munu, Dugu, or the countless other affectionate nicknames we’ve been blessed with, the scene in every home remains the same: our mothers. Yes, the quintessential Indian mother with her daily ritual of prayers and endless “manifestations” for our future success.
Now that I have one, I believe that having dimples makes a person extremely cute and attractive, like me 😉 I said, 'Now that I have one,' that's because the God has been funny; thus, I took after Sasta Shahrukh (IYKWIM)😝.
