MK Stalin, the chief minister of Tamil Nadu, promised on Monday that the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) will be abolished and urged students not to end their lives under any circumstances. Stalin's remarks coincide with an increase in suicides in the state related to exam failure.

After failing the exam twice, a NEET candidate committed suicide on Sunday in Chennai. His father also committed suicide a day later.

Stalin referred to the Assembly resolutions that asked for Tamil Nadu to be exempt from the NEET and said that the first resolution was turned down by the Governor while the second resolution was sent to the President for approval. "It seems as though Governor Ravi wants to table the bill. The Chief Minister stated that the cost of the NEET exam has increased and that only the wealthy can afford it.

He claimed that people who couldn't support the significant financial load of education failed the test. A situation has developed, according to Stalin, that effectively restricts access to medical education to the wealthy by requiring individuals who can pass the NEET exam to have financial means.
