The 'College On Wheels' Of Jammu University Takes 700 Ladies On A Study Ride

The University of Jammu has launched the historic 'College on Wheels,' also known as the Jammu and Kashmir 'Gyanodaya Express,' a transforming educational trip that has embarked on a unique learning adventure with over 700 girls.

Manoj Sinha, Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir and Chancellor of the University of Jammu, launched the historic Gyanodaya Express on Sunday from Katra Railway Station in Jammu's Reasi area. The Lt Governor commended the unique and unprecedented effort of the Higher Education Council, the University of Jammu, and everyone associated with the initiative, which aims to empower approximately 700 female students from across the Union Territory, in his address at the flagging off ceremony on Sunday.

Earlier, speaking during a curtain raiser ceremony on Friday, Prof Dinesh Singh, Vice Chairman of Higher Education Council J&K UT and former Vice Chancellor Delhi University, said that the enlarged definition of education is a search for the ‘inner self’.

“In order to recognise yourself, one needs to understand their inner self. This journey is largely inspired by the life and examples of Mahatma Gandhi, who used to say, like Rabindranath Tagore, Socrates and Kabir, that education is outside the classroom as much as it is inside the classroom,” he said and added that the train journey would be a life-changing experience for students.
