Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, has released data showing the rise in the nation's medical seat count. According to data shared by the government, there are now 1,08,940 MBBS seats nationwide and 70,674 PG seats. The minister stated that up to 57,592 more MBBS seats have been added in the ten years between 2014 and 2024, despite the fact that there were only 51,348 in 2014.
The Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Bharati Pravin Pawar, stated last month in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha that 157 government medical colleges have been sanctioned in three phases under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS), 108 of which are currently operational.
According to Pawar, the government has expanded the number of medical schools, which has led to an increase in MBBS seats. She said that according to official data, the number of medical colleges increased by 82% between 2014 and 2023, from 387 to 706.
