During a visit to Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh, on Saturday, Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar opened the 500th Ek Se Sreshtha education centre and urged young people to be change agents in order to propel India to the top by 2047.
“Development has taken place in the country at a rocket speed under the present government, and now the onus to bring India to the top is on the youth, especially the women, who have been empowered through various schemes and initiatives,” he said.
About 10,000 females are receiving free education at these centres, according to Dhankhar, who was accompanied by Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla and Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur. He went on to say that women make up 95% of the instructors at these centres, and they are giving the children more power.
Ek Se Sreshtha is an initiative to ensure access to quality education and provide holistic development to students from all walks of life. The vice president further said the image of women is being transformed from mere homemakers to harbingers of change. Noting that “Shrestha” means perfection and motivation, Union Minister Thakur said a large number of children are benefitting through the programme.
India is not a weak country but a very strong, developed one whose voice is heard, Dhankhar said. The countries "we used to look to are looking towards us with awe", according to the vice president. India has left the UK, France and other European countries behind in modern technology, and it will become the third biggest power in five to six years, pushing Japan and Germany behind, Dhankhar claimed.
