The Arohan initiative of the Government of Assam and the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati, are working together to encourage deserving students to pursue STEM fields in their postsecondary education.

According to the institute, it has successfully hosted 3311 students (2009 females and 1302 boys) as well as a small number of mentee instructors, encouraging them to investigate the wide range of options and interests in STEM education.

Remarkably, women made up almost 65% of the student body, underscoring the need to support and encourage females in STEM fields, according to IIT Guwahati.

IIT Guwahati has hosted 12 batches of deserving students (called Mentees) and their guide teachers/officers under the Arohan scheme. These students got the chance to visit with staff members, mingle with other students, and look at the campus during their tour of IIT Guwahati. These events, which were organised by the Public Relations Branding and Ranking (PRBR), Students' Affairs, and Outreach Education Program (OEP) offices at IIT Guwahati, took place during their four- or five-day stay on campus from October to December 2019.

The visionary Hon'ble Chief Minister of Assam, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, is the driving force behind Arohan, an initiative designed as a Mentor-Mentee program for secondary-level students in Government schools. Under the auspices of Samagra Shiksha Assam, this flagship program includes a variety of activities such as exposure tours, competitions, and mentorship that are specifically designed to help government school students in grades 9 through 12 advance their careers.
