Ms Koike Yuriko, the Governor of Tokyo, stated that Japan, particularly Tokyo, would want to cooperate on exchange programmes and cooperation to invite Indian students, entrepreneurs, and enterprises to work and develop their goods in Tokyo. Ms Koike, accompanied by a Singaporean team, paid a visit to the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) on July 8, 2023, and met with the Institute's leadership.
"It's encouraging to see India making significant progress in IT and technology." Indian startups are also building a name for themselves on a global scale. Tokyo is attempting to solve global urban difficulties with cutting-edge technology through ambitious projects like "SusHi Tech Tokyo" in order to establish a sustainable society for the future. We in Japan, particularly in Tokyo, would want to work on exchange programmes and cooperation to invite Indian students, entrepreneurs, and enterprises to work and develop their products in Tokyo, as well as build long-term ties," said Ms Koike Yuriko, Governor of Tokyo, Japan.
Ms Koike and the group also toured several of IITGN's sophisticated labs, such as Maker Bhawan, a world-class Maker Space, and the Centre for Creative Learning (CCL), to learn about the unique projects they are working on. The CCL team also gave the Tokyo Governor portraits created utilising various mathematical techniques.
IITGN is one of India's most globalised campuses, with academic and research ties with institutions all over the world, including a double degree course arrangement with the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST). Before graduating, about 40% of its undergraduate students and 75% of its PhD students participate in study abroad, internships, or other international experiences. Almost 80% of the faculty has an international degree or postdoctoral experience. Almost 20% of its faculty is visiting, mostly from other countries. Every year, the Institute welcomes a large number of overseas students to its campus.
