Campus News
Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia Najma Akhtar announced on Thursday that work has started on the university's medical college and that admission for 150 medical seats will likely start in the following year. In a news conference, Akhtar stated that the university is putting up a thorough proposal for a hospital that will be built off-campus on a 5-acre plot and a medical college that would be located on the campus.
She continued by saying that the university is considering a public-private partnership strategy for supporting the college. The vice-chancellor stated that although the government had approved the medical college, no funds had yet been allocated. However, she continued, "We are optimistic and may begin with public-private partnerships in which we will request funding from private entities." According to Akhtar, a multi-story structure for the institution would be constructed under the heading "Health Sciences." The vice-chancellor stated that the new college would have at least 150 seats.
