Campus News
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras announced today that the first foreign campus, IIT Madras Zanzibar, will have a female director for the first time. Preeti Aghalayam, Director-in-Charge of IIT Madras Zanzibar, stated, "I am an alumnus of IIT Madras, and doing something of this magnitude for the institute and the country is an honour." We noticed that the representation of women on their side was pretty significant every time we visited the IIT Madras contingent. As a result, it was critical that we proceed with caution."
Speaking to the media in Delhi, IIT Madras Director V Kamakoti said, “We will see many more encouraging things. We are following sustainable development goals, and one of the important goals suggests that we need to bring in gender balance.”
Prof Ligy Philip will be in charge of the infrastructure of the IIT Madras Zanzibar campus, according to Kamakoti. She will be in charge of the infrastructure of the temporary and permanent IIT Madras Zanzibar campuses. The permanent campus would be extended across 200 acres on Zanzibar Island, with IIT Madras experts developing the master plan. "We will open the campus on October 24, 2023, which is also United Nations Day," V Kamakoti added.
