Around 1,100 female students from several universities in Jammu and Kashmir will go on a "college on wheels" rail tour to other regions of the country later this year, according to Prof Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor of the University of Jammu.

"This will be an instructional tour, not a vacation... "No expenses will be charged to the students who will work on their self-chosen projects during the journey, which is expected to take place at the end of October or early November," Rai told on the eve of the university's special convocation.

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, who will make his first visit to Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, will be the convocation's principal guest. Students from the 2016-19 and 2017-19 batches will be honoured with 265 gold medals and 211 PhD degrees during the programme.
