IIT Madras Launches ‘IITM School Connect’: Pioneering Data Science and AI for Young Minds

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) has launched the IITM School Connect program, a valuable resource designed to guide school students in their higher education and career choices.

The initiative offers two tailored certificate courses: Data Science and Artificial Intelligence and Electronic Systems, specifically created for students in Classes XI and XII, to equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge for their future endeavours.

Key features of the courses include:

• Recorded lecture videos

• Hands-on training

• Live interactions

• Assignments

• Computer-based assessments for certification

These eight-week online courses aim to provide practical career experiences. Registrations for the upcoming batch opened on 16th September, 2024 and will close on 4th October, 2024. Classes start on  21st October, 2024. Schools wishing to enrol students must do so by  30th September, 2024.

IIT Madras is partnering with over 500 schools nationwide, and the response has been overwhelming. 11,000 students have already signed up for the first batch, a testament to the program's success.

Prof. Andrew Thangaraj, Chair of the Centre for Outreach and Digital Education (CODE), noted that the current courses are just the beginning, with plans to introduce more hands-on programs soon. Prof. Prathap Haridoss, Dean of Academic Courses, emphasised that these courses allow students to engage in real projects, helping them discover their interests and strengths.
