IRAI organized Hands-on Training in Molecular Markers and Tissue Culture Assisted Plant Breeding, sponsored by the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), Department of Science and Technology, Govt of India, under the Accelerate Vigyan Scheme.

This is the Online and Offline training whose registration will be carried out between the 7th to 17th of June. Training would be there between 24th July to 2nd August. It is also announced that the certification will be provided to all the participants.

About the training
Marker-assisted selection (MAS) is a breeding tool used to make more accurate and valuable selections in breeding populations leading to crop improvement programs. MAS allows heritable traits to be linked to the DNA segments responsible for controlling that trait. DNA/QTLs can be detected through laboratory techniques such as molecular markers.

Plant tissue culture is one of the promising and efficient technologies which has opened and widened the scope of plant research. It is primarily used for plant multiplication, but recently, this technology has been used for plant propagation, disease elimination, crop improvement, and secondary metabolite production.

The goal is to provide a holistic experience to postgraduate and research scholars who will be exposed to the various molecular biology and tissue culture laboratory instruments and techniques. This hands-on training will provide an excellent opportunity to motivate and teach innovations and ideas in their future study plans. Also, the students, young researchers, experts, and scientists will interact in various domains of the exciting field of plant biology. The overall goal of this training is to provide a forum for exchanging information and ideas on different molecular biology and tissue culture to be used in plant improvement and breeding programs.
