Today on 17th July marks the introduction of the registration portal for a short-term training session on the Indian Knowledge System (IKS) for faculty members at higher education institutions. M Jagadesh Kumar, the chairperson of the University Grants Commission (UGC), has launched the online registration on ugciks.in. Addressing faculty members at the online launch of the registration portal, Kumar stated that the primary goal of the training programme was to educate our younger generation about the fact that India has been a knowledge society for thousands of years, creating and accumulating vast amounts of knowledge in various disciplines.

In partnership with the Ministry of Education's IKS Division, UGC intends to organise six-day short-term physical training programmes for 1,000 teachers at six human resource development centres (HRDC) between July and October 2023. RTM University Nagpur, BHU, Delhi University, University of Kashmir, Gauhati University, and University of Madras are the six UGC HRDCs. UGC has asked universities and colleges to select faculty members from their institutions to participate in the training programme, which would be considered in the same way as the short-term programme under the UGC HRDC scheme.

The UGC chairman went on to say that students should be encouraged to combine their knowledge with current scientific discoveries and technological innovations in order to find solutions to the difficulties that human communities face. He further stated that the UGC had created standards for training faculty members on the Indian Knowledge System and IKS Courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
