A The state has declared a public holiday and two days of official mourning following the passing of former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.
Several government offices and educational institutions have been closed today in honour of Oommen Chandy, former chief minister and senior Congress leader. State mourning will be observed in Kerala for two days. The state government took over various social media platforms and Twitter to announce the news and public holiday. The state government tweeted, " A public holiday and two days of official mourning have been declared today (July 18) in the state following the death of former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy."
His son, Chandy Oommen, announced his father's death via a Facebook post. "Appa has passed away", he wrote on his Facebook page without providing further details. Chandy served as Kerala's chief minister twice between 2004 and 2011. Chandy had been receiving treatment at a health facility in Bengaluru, where he hadn't felt well for some time.
