This Thursday, at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), the Union Minister of Power, New and Renewable Energy, R K Singh, lay the cornerstone for the construction of the new Interdisciplinary Centre for Energy Research (ICER). Under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, the Power Finance Corporation (PFC) has given financial support of Rs 60.74 crore for the construction of the ICER building.
An official announcement stated that the purpose of the proposed ground plus three-story modern and technologically advanced complex is to replace the old infrastructure that currently houses ICER.
It stated that the building will include computer facilities, a library, conference rooms, labs, and seminar rooms. The Central Public Works Department (CPWD) is in charge of the construction, which is expected to be finished by March 2026. A wide range of renewable energy disciplines are the focus of ICER's research projects, such as creating net zero technology to produce green hydrogen, lowering emissions with supercritical carbon dioxide (sCo2), improving power and turbine technology, and developing clean coal technology.
Additionally, they are engaged in cutting-edge research and development on sustainable technologies, enhanced batteries, energy storage systems, and the production of hydrogen and other biofuels from biomass.
