Times Higher Education Rankings 2023: 16 Private And 28 Public Indian Universities Rank In The Top 1,000; Old IITs Continue To Boycott
Education News
In the 2023 edition of the Times Higher Education (THE) rankings, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) maintained its position as the top-ranked Indian university. Major IITs, including those in Delhi, Roorkee, Kanpur, Mumbai, and Kharagpur, continued to boycott the rankings for the third consecutive year due to concerns about the 'transparency' of the ranking criteria. India ranked as the 6th most represented country in THE's 2023 ranking with 75 institutes.
IISc in Bengaluru, JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research in Mysore, Shoolini University of Biotechnology and Management Sciences in Solan, Alagappa University in Karaikudi, and Mahatma Gandhi University in Kottayam are the five Indian universities that made it into the top 500 universities in the world.
This year, six colleges made their first appearance in the THE rankings, with Shoolini University of Biotechnology and Management Sciences rising to the joint second-highest position in the nation and achieving the highest new entrant score in the 351-400 band.
