The Government Has Allocated Rs 207.93 Crore In Cash For Pre-Matric And Post-Matric Scholarships Year 2022-23

The Post and Pre Matric Scholarship Scheme for SC Students is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme for SC Students Only whose parents/guardians' annual income does not exceed Rs. 2.5 lakh.

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment announced today that funds of Rs 207.93 crore were granted under the Pre-Matric Scholarships Scheme for SCs and others in 2022-23, and Rs 4392.50 crore were allocated under the Post-Matric Scholarships Scheme for SC students.

According to government data, a total of 11.34 lakh candidates benefited from the pre-matriculation scholarships plan, and 46.41 lakh beneficiaries benefited from the post-matriculation scholarships initiative.

The amount of funds allocated has decreased in the past three years — it was Rs 599.71 crore in 2020-21, and then decreased to Rs 570.18 crore in 2021-22, and then to Rs 207.93 crore in 2022-23 under the Pre-Matric Scholarships scheme. The central share of scholarships under the Pre and Post-Matric scholarship schemes is instantly deposited into the beneficiary's account via the Aaadhar Based Payment System (APBS).

A Narayanaswamy, Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, provided the information in a written response to a question in the Lok Sabha today.
