The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a list of commonly asked questions (FAQs) regarding the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE). In this, the NMC addressed queries about FMGs from Ukraine, the recognition of BS courses, and the capping of the time limit to qualify for FMGE.

Students pursuing their studies in Ukraine/Russia during the time these nations were at war will be able to migrate to any country other than India, according to NMC. Students must have physically joined the course in Ukraine or Russia prior to the hostilities and must have returned or been evacuated to India during the fighting. The permission to migrate will expire on March 7, 2024.

Talking about internships of FMGs in Indian institutes, NMC said that the quota will be as mentioned in earlier FAQs; 7.5 per cent of the permitted MBBS seats in old colleges who have their students pursuing CRMI and 100 per cent in new medical colleges who do not have their own students doing CRMI.

In this, the NMC has addressed questions regarding issues related to FMGs from Ukraine, recognition of BS course, and related to capping of the time limit to qualify FMGE.

NMC has clarified students pursuing their studies in Ukraine/ Russia at the time when these countries were at war will be allowed to migrate to any country other than India. For this, the students should have joined the course physically in Ukraine or Russia before the war and should have returned or evacuated to India during the war period. The period of permission for migration will expire March 7, 2024.

The Commission also said that the time limit for appearing in the FMG Examination/NExT should align with regulations applicable to Indian students. All FMGs will have to complete their internship in India within 10 years of the date of joining their foreign medical institutions.

NMC also clarified that students will have to continue their compulsory rotating medical internship in the same institute/college where will be doing their clinical clerkship.
