The CCPA Regulation Encourages The Dopt To Prohibit IAS Officers From Dealing With Coaching Institutes
Education News
The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has issued a directive forbidding civil workers, specifically officers entering the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), from participating in promotional activities or entering into advertising deals with coaching institutes. In response to irregularities and complaints, the direction advises the enforcement of norms to avoid endorsements by UPSC toppers in coaching institute promotions.
The CCPA, a division of the Consumer Ministry, addressed the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) at the end of November, emphasising the need to prohibit IAS officers from interacting with coaching institutes after their selection through the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).
The order emphasised the lack of clear provisions in service conduct regulations to govern such engagements. The Consumer Ministry recommended the DoPT to prohibit coaching institutes from printing the names or images of UPSC winners, particularly those joining the Indian Administrative Service (IAS).
This policy prohibits civil personnel, particularly IAS officers, from promoting themselves by partnering with coaching institutes. The order aims to protect administrative services' integrity and professionalism.
According to the government, two IITs will open foreign campuses.
Two famous Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) - IIT Delhi and IIT Madras - are planning to develop campuses in other countries. The decision aspires to spread Indian educational quality beyond national borders.
IIT Delhi plans to open a campus in Abu Dhabi, while IIT Madras has established a presence in Zanzibar to meet the educational needs of African countries. This step emphasises the Indian education sector's internationalisation effort.
Dharmendra Pradhan, Education Minister, announced this historic development in the Rajya Sabha, underlining the need to bridge the gap between Indian students who frequently seek educational opportunities overseas.
