According to Philipp Ackermann, the German ambassador to India, with over 42,000 students, Germany has the most international students from India. The number of Indian students in Germany has increased by 25% in a year, the ambassador continued. "Great! 42,000+ Indian students are studying in Germany, with a 25% increase in one year. India is currently Germany's most popular international student nation, far quicker than anticipated! Professors frequently tell me that Indian students are popular in Germany and that German students are popular in India, according to Ackermann's post on X (formerly Twitter).

Additionally, Indian students and scholars are eligible for various German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) scholarships. These scholarships have been available through DAAD for more than 60 years. The exchange service funds the "bi-directional movement" of academics and researchers between Germany and India in addition to projects by institutions.

Germany's public universities do not impose tuition fees, leaving students to cover solely their living costs. The most sought-after studies in German universities are those in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). According to information provided by DAAD India last year, 10% of Indian students were enrolled in UG and PhD studies, while 80% were pursuing master's degrees in Germany.
