The Maharashtra-UK Conference on Higher Education was organised by the Department of Higher and Technical Education, Government of Maharashtra, and the British Council, a global organisation for cultural exchange and educational opportunities, with a delegation of senior representatives from the UK higher education sector, organised by the UK Government. Senior government officials and delegates from 30 higher education institutions from all around Maharashtra attended the conference, which was held at the famed Mumbai University's Kalina campus.

Additionally, the Maharashtra government has agreed to a memorandum of understanding with the British Council to enhance educational and cultural interchange in support of the state's economic growth and knowledge goals. This delegation from the UK offers a great opportunity for higher education institutions from the state of Maharashtra and the UK to collaborate and internationalise education. The partnership also lends support to the internationalisation of higher education in the state of Maharashtra, including research and mobility.

The meeting in Mumbai aimed to improve partnerships between Maharashtra and the UK to tackle common global issues. Additionally, it concentrated on locating prospective collaborations in higher education, closely fitting with the objectives stated in the National Education Policy (NEP), the UK-India 2030 Roadmap, as well as the G20 commitments made about the priority of education. The leaders also discussed the opportunities and reach of the UGC's Foreign Collaboration Regulation and the Mutual Recognition of Qualifications (MRQs).
