NMC Has Assisted MBBS Students Who Have Returned From The Ukraine-Russia Conflict: Govt
Education News
Following the Ukraine Conflict, the Government of India carried out "Operation Ganga" to return around 18,282 Indian nationals, the majority of whom were medical students. The National Medical Commission (NMC) created a number of strategies for students based on their programme year in order to assist these students.
Recently, Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar informed the Lok Sabha that Indian students enrolled in their final year of undergraduate medicine who go on to complete their studies and receive a certificate of course completion or degree by June 30, 2022, at the latest, are eligible to take the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE).
Following their FMGE qualifying, these students will be required to do a two-year Compulsory Rotating Medical Internship (CRMI) before they may be registered.
Furthermore, the NMC has expressed its support for the Academic Mobility Programme, which is a temporary movement (during the conflict period) to institutions in other countries (apart from India). The FMGs returning from Ukraine are permitted to take advantage of this one-time opportunity to finish their remaining medical coursework. Nonetheless, the university where they relocate will grant the degree. On November 22, 2023, this relaxation period was extended for an additional three months.
In answer to a question from N. K. Premachandran, who currently serves as a member of the Lok Sabha for the Kollam Lok Sabha seat, the government supplied this information.
