According to information provided to the Rajya Sabha by Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Tuesday, the National Medical Commission (NMC) drafted the National Exit Test (NExT) regulations after considering approximately 6,500 comments received during the consultation process.

In response to a query from MP Vaiko, the minister stated that the NMC meeting, which also included representatives from universities and state medical councils, discussed and accepted the draught regulations.

The NExT Regulations, 2023, had been announced by the National Medical Commission (NMC) on June 27. According to Mandaviya, "the regulations were prepared after considering the significant number (nearly 6,500) of comments received during the consultation process." The NExT has been postponed as a result of concerns made by students, especially those from Tamil Nadu, which were taken into account, according to a public notification dated July 13, the minister stated.

The Next Exam (NEXT) will be a "computer-based examination based on high-quality multiple-choice questions (MCQ) focused on addressing higher domains of knowledge aligned to competencies expected of a medical graduate practising the modern system of medicine."
