NEET PG 2023 Counselling: Top 100 Choose General Medicine And Radiodiagnosis; Few Choose Surgery And Gynaecology
Education News
According to the first allotment list for the 2023 NEET PG, 28 of the top 100 rank holders chose radiodiagnosis, while 41 opted for general medicine. Only two candidates chose surgery, which has long been popular among MBBS graduates. Experts feel that because surgery is a more difficult profession and there has been an increase in violence against doctors, there has been a drop in popularity.
Getting a surgical specialism was considered prestigious about a decade ago, and the best rankers competed for it. However, it has declined significantly in recent years. In 2020, five people chose MS surgery, eight in 2021, and one in 2022.
Rohan Krishnan, President of the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA), notes that postgraduate students avoid these branches because of attacks on doctors, particularly surgeons or in emergency departments.
