According to R Bindu, minister of higher education, there would only be four-year degree programmes starting in the following academic year.
The course is set up, according to the minister, so that students can choose whether to continue their education in the fourth year. After the third year, there will be an exit strategy in place. After three years, a certificate of completion will be given.
Students who choose to continue on to the fourth year will receive an Honours degree. In the fourth year, emphasis will be placed on research and internships. According to Higher Education Minister R Bindu, Kerala has managed a curricular framework for the first time in its history.
"The process is over. The curriculum framework is managed by the state higher education council and was handed over to the universities in the month of April. Now the universities have to take the responsibility of forming the syllabus according to the curriculum", the minister said.
