In India, Delhi University Tops The QS World University Sustainability Rankings

Officials announced on Tuesday that Delhi University had topped the list of 56 Indian universities that had made the cut in the QS World University Sustainability rankings. Following DU, the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) Bombay and Madras took second and third place, respectively.
Globally, the University of Toronto was ranked first, followed by the University of California, Berkeley (UCB) and The University of Manchester in second and third place, respectively.
The QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2024 evaluated 1,397 institutions from 95 countries and territories, more than doubling the amount from the pilot edition last year. The rankings are divided into three categories: social effect, environmental impact, and governance, and they provide a comprehensive framework for evaluating how institutions solve global concerns.
The universities were evaluated based on three criteria: environmental impact, social impact, and governance. India excelled in environmental impact indices, with four Indian colleges ranked among the world's top 100 in Environmental Sustainability. Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) led the nation in this area, ranking 49th internationally and ninth in Asia.
