Banaras Hindu University to begin 4-year UG programme from 2024-25
Education News
Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has announced the start of a four-year undergraduate programme in 2024-25. The programme will be offered in two formats: UG Honours and UG Honours with Research.
This innovative academic framework is intended to provide students with a comprehensive and flexible educational experience that emphasises holistic development and prepares them for professional difficulties. According to BHU officials, the UG Honours with Research option will be available only to the top 10% of students with a CGPA of 7.5 or higher, ensuring that the selection process is merit-driven.
The launch of these programmes is likely to have a substantial impact on student's career pathways, particularly those completing UG Honours with Research, as they will be directly eligible for PhD programmes without the need for a postgraduate degree. The ability to choose minor courses from a wide range of fields aims to promote an interdisciplinary approach to higher education.
In addition to speciality courses, BHU has highlighted the value of a well-rounded education. As a result, all undergraduate students must acquire credits for transdisciplinary courses, skill and ability upgrading, value-added courses, and internships. Those participating in the honours with research programme will also complete a dissertation in their final semester, honing their research and analytical skills.
Departments across BHU are now examining their course offerings to ensure alignment with the new programmes and effective implementation of these revolutionary educational possibilities. This programme is a crucial step towards attaining the goals of NEP 2020, which aim to improve India's academic environment and provide students with the skills and knowledge needed in the global professional arena.
