9 Of The 150 Medical Colleges That Were Initially Investigated Are Still Not Allowed To Admit Students
Education News
The admission of students for the current MBBS batch (2023–2024) is still prohibited in at least 9 colleges with 1,500 seats. All nine colleges are trust-run or private institutions.
The nine colleges are divided among Punjab, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Bihar, and two each from Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
The inspection committee has accused at least two colleges of misbehaviour and lack of collaboration. Although medical colleges are occasionally investigated, the problem was brought to light earlier this year when the NMC either de-recognized 150 colleges or handed them notices. The aforementioned universities faced problems with things like a lack of patients and employees as well as a failure to install the new camera and biometric attendance-based system.
Such improvements occur while the NMC works to set up a new system of ongoing medical college monitoring employing hospital cameras, an Aadhaar-based biometric attendance system, and hospital health system management data. Students from previously admitted batches would not be impacted; the NMC official made it clear. Colleges won't be able to admit students for the current batch, even if they fix their mistakes by the fourth and final round of counselling begins on September 21.
