IIT Roorkee’s Ruby Jubilee Reunion: 1981 Batch Makes A Donation Of 1 Crore

The 1981 Batch, which includes the 1982 BArch, had its Ruby Jubilee Reunion recently at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Roorkee. Approximately 219 participants, including alumni and their families, came together to celebrate and remember about their common experience at the university. The 1981 batch gave the institute a donation of around Rs 1 crore during the reunion. According to an official press release from the institute, "This generous contribution will play a vital role in supporting and enhancing the academic and research excellence that IIT Roorkee is renowned for."

One of the nation's oldest universities, IIT Roorkee is a technological university situated in Roorkee, Uttarakhand. Lieutenant-Governor of the North-Western Provinces James Thomason established it in 1847 as the College of Civil Engineering in British India. Proby Cautley called it the Thomason College of Civil Engineering in 1854. After that, in 1949 it was renamed University of Roorkee, and in 2001 it was renamed IIT Roorkee once more.
