The National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE) will now officially go by the name Indian Institute of Management, Mumbai (IIM Mumbai), after the Indian Institutes of Management (Amendment) Bill 2023 received approval from both chambers.

NITIE Mumbai will become the country's 21st IIM as a result.
The institute is currently attempting to quadruple the number of students enrolled and enhance its current infrastructure in accordance with this expansion. "I would like to see the enrollment at IIM Mumbai quadruple, and to do this, we need improved staff housing, research, and infrastructure. On Wednesday, Shashi Kiran Shetty, Chairman of the Society and Board of Governors, NITIE, told reporters, "We will work on this as soon as feasible.

Shetty further clarified that every student enrolled in any programme at NITIE (roughly 1200 students) will receive an IIM Mumbai credential upon graduation.

"Our ultimate goal is to make IIM Mumbai self-sufficient, so we'll work to create an infrastructure that can support a larger population of students and faculty, launch new programmes and research projects, and establish partnerships with businesses that will benefit students' education.
