Campus News
Bengaluru's Azim Premji University Forests of Life, the organization's yearly climate event, debuted on Friday. The event features a variety of art installations, music, movies, antiques, interactive activities, and photos taken by young interns in forests.
Thirty-one student interns were chosen from over 300 applications, and they toured through 110 different types of forests around the nation. Their stories have interwoven their personal experiences, the difficulties posed by disputes between people and animals, and the close ties that indigenous groups have to the natural world. They have also compiled inspiring conservation tales and documented successful instances of wildlife relocation.
A map at the festival depicting the deteriorating condition of the forest cover in the North East claimed that between 2001 and 2021, the Northeast of India lost 4,350 square kilometers of primary forest area. The festival will be open to the public until November 14, and entry will be free.
Close to 1500 students and members of the public visited the inaugural day of the festival which began with a tribute to forests of Biligiri Rangaswamy Betta by Soliga tribal elders and presentation by students.
