In a recent announcement, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) outlined the upcoming board exams 2024 for Classes 10 and 12. According to the update, these exams will undergo several pivotal changes to improve students' academic pursuits and support their diverse interests.

Key highlights of CBSE Board Exam Plan of Action 2024:

Marking scheme

  • According to the CBSE marking scheme, the Class 10 and 12 board exams will include a theory, practical, project, and internal assessment component. The board allocated a maximum of 100 marks per subject for 83 subjects in Class 10 and 121 subjects in Class 12.
  • Practical exams in subjects such as music, painting, computers, retail, information technology, and others will receive 50 marks, while internal assessments in English, Hindi, math, science, and social studies will receive 20 marks.
  • As of class 12, practical marks range from 30 to 50 in subjects like Geography, Psychology, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, Painting, Graphics, Sculpture, Dance, and Home Science. On CBSE's website, you can find all the marking schemes.

Introduction of two Board Exams

With two board exams every year, students have more chances to improve their scores. Ultimately, this move aims to help students keep their best scores, enhancing their academic performance. It's part of a broader effort to enrich the educational experience.

Revoking Division and Distinction Awards

The CBSE decided not to award divisions or distinctions to students in a departure from previous practices. Moreover, no merit lists will be compiled for the Class 10 and 12 board exams. The admissions college will now be responsible for selecting the best five subjects for calculating the students' marks.
