VC Ramgopal Rao of BITS Pilani Receives the VLSI Lifetime Achievement Award in 2024

The VSI Lifetime Achievement Award 2024 has been given to Professor Ramgopal Rao, the vice chancellor of BITS Pilani. At Kolkata, India's 37th International Conference on VLSI Design, the VLSI Society of India presents the award.
Prof. Rao's contributions to the growth of the Indian semiconductor and VLSI design ecosystem are acknowledged with this award. A BITS Pilani statement in this regard stated, "His great dedication to Semiconductors and VLSI Design Research and Education has established a sturdy foundation, playing a key role in placing India as a powerful "Semiconductor Nation."
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Rao said: “I am deeply honored to receive the VSI Lifetime Achievement Award for 2024. This recognition is not just a personal achievement but a testament to the collective efforts of my students and collaborators over the past 25 years. It also reaffirms my resolve to advance education, research, and innovation in VLSI design and the semiconductor ecosystem. I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to India’s journey towards becoming a strong ‘VLSI Nation,’ and I dedicate this award to everyone who has been part of my journey so far.”
According to Rao, the honors also serve as a reminder of his dedication to furthering innovation, research, and teaching in VLSI design and the semiconductor industry. "I am thankful for the chance to support India's progress in becoming a powerful 'VLSI Nation,' and I dedicate this award to everyone who has supported me along the way," he continued.
An expert team made up of nine jurors from academic institutions and the international semiconductor industry decided who will get the VSI Lifetime Achievement Award in 2024. The VLSI Society of India's steering committee, conference organising team for VLSID-2024, and leadership team have all expressed their gratitude.
