US Universities Check TOEFL Scores by Indian Study Partners

Universities in the United States (US) can now verify exam of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) exam results through their Indian study-abroad partners. This notification was issued by the Educational Testing Service (ETS), which is situated in Princeton and administers assessments such as the TOEFL and Graduate Record Examinations.

ETS has collaborated with Career Mosaic, a student recruiter for US universities in South Asia, on score verification. According to ETS statistics, the number of applicants taking the TOEFL in India has increased by 59% since foreign travel began during the COVID-19 pandemic. According to PTI, Indians account for more than 12% of all TOEFL exam candidates.

ETS India and South Asia's country manager, Sachin Jain, stated that the collaboration with Career Mosaic will give colleges with "reliable and efficient solutions" for evaluating prospective students' English language proficiency.

"We are excited to partner with Career Mosaic to verify TOEFL scores of US university applicants, enhancing the university's trust in the scores submitted," stated the official.

The development comes as an increasing number of Indian students choose to study at US universities. In just one year, the number of Indian students in the United States has increased by an astounding 35%.

This collaboration underscores the joint commitment of both organisations in providing universities with reliable and efficient solutions for evaluating the English language proficiency of prospective students,” said Sachin Jain, country manager, ETS India and South Asia.

Blerina Polovina, director of international admissions and business development at Webster University USA, applauded the initiative, saying that validating TOEFL scores will assist universities expedite the admissions process, speeding student onboarding.

"By having validated scores, universities will save the effort of English proficiency score verification, ultimately fostering a more seamless and reliable admissions experience for both students and universities alike," Polovina said in a statement.

According to ETS statistics, the number of applicants taking TOEFL in India has increased by 59% since foreign travel began following the COVID-19 pandemic halt. Indians account for more than 12% of TOEFL test takers worldwide.
