UGC Outlines SOPs for Smooth National Credit Framework Implementation!
Education News
According to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) released by the University Grants Commission (UGC), the National Credit Framework (NCrF) will be implemented in higher education, vocational education, training and skilling (VETS), and school education. Following the notification of the NCRF, the Ministry of Education formed a High-Level Committee (HLC) to develop SOPs for implementing the NCRF.
"I am pleased to introduce the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for operationalising the National Credit Framework (NCrF). The NCrF, notified by the UGC, marks a significant step towards our shared vision of a dynamic, inclusive, lifelong education system that empowers learners with relevant skills and knowledge for the 21st century," said UGC chairman M Jagadesh Kumar.
He also believed that this framework would make studies and courses more transparent and adaptable. This adaptability will ensure that the framework can evolve with the changing needs of the education and labour sectors, thereby instilling confidence and a sense of security in the stakeholders about the NCrF.
To realise NEP 2020's vision and intent, UGC, AICTE, NCVET, NIOS, CBSE, NCERT, DGT, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Skill Development made a collective effort. This collaboration resulted in the creation of the National Credit Framework (NCrF), a comprehensive system that incorporates elementary, secondary, and vocational education and training, integrating learning on all dimensions, namely academics, occupational skills, and experiential learning.
The NCrF SOPs offer "a clear guide to facilitate the assignment, accumulation, storage, transfer, and redemption of credits across school, higher, and vocational education and training", the UGC said.
