According to PTI, the Ministry of Education has instructed the CBSE to work out structures for conducting board exams twice a year, beginning with the 2025-26 academic session.

According to the Ministry of Education's New Curriculum Framework (NCF), board examinations would be held twice a year to guarantee students ample time and opportunity to perform well and retain their top score.

According to the anonymous sources in the PTI report, a plan to introduce a semester system has been ruled out.

Currently, the board is working out how to structure the CBSE academic calendar to accommodate another set of board exams without impacting the undergraduate admission schedule.

"The idea being explored is to conduct two editions of the board exams at the end of the year from the 2025-26 academic session, but the modalities still need to be worked out. However, there is no plan to implement the semester system," the source mentioned to PTI.

The Education Ministry, along with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), will hold discussions with school principals next month about conducting board exams twice a year. There are 28,000 CBSE schools, in which 100 school principals are invited, and others will participate digitally, PTI further reported.

"The ministry has asked the CBSE to work on how board exams will be conducted twice a year. The board is working out the modalities, and a consultation will be organised next month with school principals," the source said to PTI.
