Chhattisgarh Launches MBBS in Hindi: CM Vishnu Deo Sai
Education News
On 14th September 2024, the Honourable Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Mr Vishnu Deo Sai, announced that the MBBS course in the state will be conducted in Hindi beginning with the ongoing academic session. This announcement was made on the occasion of 'Hindi Diwas.'
He stated that the decision aligns with Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision, articulated during a 2022 rally in Uttar Pradesh, to provide medical education in Hindi. He emphasised that his government is pleased to support this initiative.
"On Hindi Diwas, we are making a significant decision. The MBBS course will now be available in Hindi. Hindi-language textbooks will be introduced for first-year students starting from the 2024-25 academic session. The health department has been instructed to procure and prepare the necessary books and study materials," Mr Sai informed local reporters.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to reform the education policy, moving away from the traditional Macaulay education system. Mr Sai also highlighted that the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has been fully implemented in Chhattisgarh. He further explained that this change would benefit students from rural areas, primarily from Hindi-medium schools.
Despite their inherent talent, these students often need help with medical courses due to the predominance of English. By studying in Hindi, students are anticipated to strengthen their foundational knowledge, gain a deeper understanding of the subject, and ultimately become more proficient doctors.
Hindi Diwas, observed annually on September 14, commemorates the decision made by the Constituent Assembly in 1949 to designate Hindi, written in the Devanagari script, as the official language of the Union of India.
