MBBS Fees Gujarat

In a recent move to drastically raise the cost of MBBS programs at medical schools affiliated with the Gujarat Medical Education and Research Society (GMERS), the Gujarat government has declared reversing that decision. This action follows significant protests around the state over the high tuition increase.

Rushikesh Patel, the state government's spokesperson and health minister, made the news and promised that a new circular with reduced fees for the 13 GMERS medical institutions will be released soon. Speaking to reporters in Gandhinagar, Patel highlighted that the administration is dedicated to making decisions that help students and advised families to be calm as they work on delivering fee benefits through various initiatives.

Students, parents' groups, the Indian Medical Association (IMA), and political opposition all lobbied hard for the decision to be reversed. The Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) has taken a firm stand against the fee rise, with state Congress head Shaktisinh Gohil not just opposing, but threatening to stage demonstrations at all levels if it was not overturned.

The price rise announced on June 28 increased yearly costs for state and all-India quota seats by 66%, from Rs 3.30 lakh to Rs 5.50 lakh. Management quota costs increased 87% from Rs 9.07 lakh to Rs 17.00 lakh, while NRI quota fees rose by 13% from Dollar 22,000 to Dollar 25,000 annually.
