CM Himanta Biwsa Sarma Reviews Fee-Waiver Education Scheme for Higher Education
Education News
On Monday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma examined the operation of Pragyan Bharti, a fee-waiver plan for free admission to academic institutes run by the state's Higher Education Department. According to the policy, students whose parent's annual income is less than Rs 2 lakh are entitled to free admission to higher education courses in the state.
An official notification stated that 57,469 candidates were judged eligible for tuition waivers during the 2024-25 academic session. According to the statement, the figure will rise when the second merit list for undergraduate admissions is issued soon.
As a testament to our commitment to inclusivity, the CM's orders now recognise ration cards produced under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) as supporting papers for the Pragyan Bharti scheme, easing the process for many families.
The CM has placed great importance on the role of education department officials in undertaking an extensive awareness campaign about the Pragyan Bharti program. This is a call to action for the general public to play their part in ensuring maximum student participation. According to the announcement, the chief minister also noted that several applicants needed help enrolling in the plan due to a lack of income certifications.
