In an exciting new chapter for global academic collaboration, Rice University, a prestigious private institution based in the United States, is broadening its international footprint with the launch of Rice Global India. This initiative will pave the way for deeper ties with India's rapidly advancing education and technology sectors.
On 18th November, 2024, Rice University celebrated the opening of its new centre in Bengaluru with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, marking the official launch of its regional operations. This expansion significantly strengthens Rice's growing presence across India and fosters stronger international connections.
During the event, Rice representatives met with Priyank Kharge, Karnataka's Minister for Electronics, IT, Biotechnology, and Science & Technology, to discuss opportunities for long-term collaboration in promoting Global Capability Centers (GCCs). These centres will drive innovation and create a platform for groundbreaking partnerships between academia and industry.
Rice's strategic expansion in India also includes deepening its collaborations with some of the nation's most esteemed institutions, including the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru. These partnerships will focus on cutting-edge research and innovation in artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and sustainable energy and foster exchange programs for students and faculty.
In his address, Mr Reginald DesRoches, President of Rice University, emphasised the immense potential for impact in India, stating, "India is a country of tremendous opportunity, one where we see the potential to make a meaningful impact through collaboration in research, innovation, and education."
With this bold move, Rice University is positioning itself at the heart of India's burgeoning tech and academic sectors, creating new pathways for transformative educational and research collaborations.
