IIT Delhi Welcomes Record Numbers of Women Graduates and Foreign Scholars

Professor Rangan Banerjee, the director of the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, announced on August 8 that the institute has initiated three new programs for the academic year 2024-25. These programmes are M.A. in Culture and Society, taught by the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, MSc in Biological Sciences by the Kusuma School of Biological Sciences, and Executive M.B.A. by the Department of Management Studies.

Further, he said over 2600 students will receive their degrees at the 55th conference. Out of the total graduating students, 25 percent are female students. This year's conference will confer over 475 PhD degrees, a 35% increase from the previous year. Women constitute 42% of the total number of PhD students who have completed their studies. It is intriguing that the youngest graduate, who received a BTech degree, is under 20, while the oldest, who received a PhD, is 63. BTech, dual degree programs, PhD, M.B.A., MS (Research), MDes, MTech, Master of Public Policy, MTech under Advance Standing, P.G.D.IIT (Naval Construction), Joint P.G. Diploma in V.L.F.M., D.IIT (P.G.), and MSc students will also receive their degrees and diplomas at the conference.

IIT Delhi: International students 

The convocation ceremony will witness the graduation of 28 international students, each of whom has made significant contributions to the academic and cultural life of IIT Delhi of the 28, four are from Sudan and Ethiopia, three are from Tanzania and Uganda, two are from Bangladesh and Burkina Faso, and one is from various other countries, such as the United States and Venezuela. Their achievements are a source of pride and inspiration for the entire IIT Delhi community. Forty-four international students pursued a variety of postgraduate programs during the 2023-24 academic year. Ten of these individuals are enrolled in the PhD program, while 34 are in various master's programs. During the previous academic year, 24 students from IIT Delhi had the opportunity to participate in semester exchange programs at institutions in the United Kingdom, Canada, Denmark, Sweden, France, and Hong Kong. 

Additionally, IIT Delhi has taken significant steps to ensure the well-being of our international students. This year, each of the four international students who received Rs 50,000 from this fund was supported, reaffirming  our commitment to their well-being. This support is a testament to our dedication to providing a nurturing and supportive environment for all our students, regardless of their background.
