Ecole Polytechnique Partners with IITs

In a significant move to enhance academic collaboration, Ecole Polytechnique, one of France's premier institutions, has signed tailored agreements with IIT-Delhi and IIT-Bombay. As confirmed by the French Embassy, this milestone was achieved during the Honourable President’s visit to India from 7 to 11 October.

Founded in 1794 to cultivate top-tier engineers for France, Ecole Polytechnique has evolved into a leading global education institution renowned for its commitment to cutting-edge research, innovation, and a culture of excellence grounded in a rich humanist tradition.

The new agreements strengthen Ecole Polytechnique's relationship with IIT-Delhi and pave the way for potential collaborations with IIT-Bombay. This initiative follows a previous Memorandum of Understanding signed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to France in July 2023, which involved IIT Delhi and IIT Madras.

The French Embassy revealed that discussions are also in progress with IISc Bangalore, focusing on shared research and educational interests. Ms Chaubard, during her media interaction, emphasised that these partnerships will significantly enrich the academic landscape and global research efforts. "Engaging with the IITs allows us to enhance our academic environment while contributing to the international research community," she stated.

Ms.Chaubard noted the remarkable alignment in excellence between the institutions, underscoring the shared goals and ambitions. As part of the Institute  Polytechnique de Paris, which includes six prestigious French engineering schools, Ecole Polytechnique ranks 46th in the QS 2025 rankings and 71st in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.

Currently, Ecole Polytechnique hosts around 80 Indian students, and its strategy to deepen ties with top Indian universities aims to broaden access to outstanding Indian talent. This initiative promises to create vibrant academic pathways that benefit both countries, fostering innovation and excellence in education.
