A partnership between the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and the Kalipatnapu Foundation has resulted in the establishment of forty scholarships for chemistry majors in the Institute of Science, both undergraduate and graduate.

The Foundation will provide BHU with a one crore rupee donation to establish the scholarships in memory of the late Kalipatnapu Kondiah, a former student and instructor.

After earning his bachelor's and master's degrees from BHU, Kondiah joined the university's Chemistry faculty (1922–1941) and worked his way up to become the department head. In order to join the freedom movement, he left the university in 1941 and spent the next five years behind bars. He founded a chemical business in Andhra Pradesh after being released from prison to aid in the nation's transition to independence.

His family, which includes his late daughter Smt. Indira Devi, grandson Chaitanya Kalipatnapu, and son Dr. Indusekhar Rao Kalipatnapu, established the Kalipatnapu Foundation. Indushekhar Rao and BHU Registrar Professor Arun Singh signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the presence of Indushekhar Rao's wife, Chaitanya Kalipatnapu, and his niece, as well as Vice Chancellor Professor Sudhir Jain.

Vice Chancellor Jain lauded the Foundation and the family for the generous contribution aimed at supporting students in their pursuit of knowledge. He said that such donations enable BHU to serve its purpose more vigorously by providing good education to deserving students from financially deprived families.
