A seven-member committee has been established by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) to assess the readiness of states and medical schools for the implementation of the National Exit Test (NExT) for final-year MBBS students in the 2020 batch.

On July 13, the National Medical Commission (NMC) postponed the NExT for the 2019 batch's final-year MBBS students.

According to a Tuesday order from the Health Ministry, "it has been decided to form a committee with the approval of the Ministry for Health and Family Welfare Mansukh Mandaviya to examine the implementation and preparedness for NExT."

In order to comprehend the deviations from the current system presented by NExT, the committee will review the pertinent rules. The National Exit Test (NEXT) rules 2023 published by the NMC in June said that the exam will be divided into two phases, with the NExT Step 1 and NExT Step 2 exams being offered twice a year.

It will also serve as the foundation for selecting candidates for admission and determining their eligibility for further postgraduate medical education in the nation in a variety of medical specialities.
