Tuesday saw the appointment of Thachat Viswanath Narendran, the Chief Executing Officer (CEO) of Tata Steel Limited, as the next head of the IIT Kharagpur Board of Governors. The institute's director greeted the newly chosen chairman and expressed his confidence that he would lead the organisation to new heights.

"We welcome TV Narendran as the new chairperson of the Board of Governors of IIT Kharagpur," director Prof. VK Tiwari remarked. Narendran is aware of the requirements of society and the practical ramifications of combining industry and academia with a technical institution since he is a man who observes technological and industrial superiority.

Tata Steel Long Products Limited and Tata Steel Europe had Narendran on their board of directors. While employed by Tata Steel, Narendran was also responsible for the company's inorganic and organic growth.

Narendran, who has over 34 years of expertise in the mining and metals sector, took over as chairman instead of Dr Rajendra Prasad. He graduated from the National Institute of Technology in Trichy as a mechanical engineer. The Indian Institute of Management in Calcutta is where he received his MBA. In addition, Narendran serves on the Executive Committee and Board of the World Steel Association. Additionally, he served as the vice-chairman of the Mining and Metals Governors of the World Economic Forum from 2016 to 2018.
