The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) will soon be offered in a number of regional languages, according to an important announcement from the National Testing Agency (NTA). This might happen as early as 2024. With this change, students across India will have easier access to CLAT, a vital test for those wishing to pursue a career in law. The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs), which are currently in charge of organising CLAT, has the final say, though.

NTA expressed its preparedness to administer the CLAT in languages including Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu in response to a petition filed before the Delhi High Court. By removing linguistic obstacles, this project may completely change how accessible legal education is.

In addition, the NTA declared that it was prepared to administer CLAT in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode, just like other significant entrance exams like JEE and CUET. If approved, depending on the required preparations, the CLAT (UG)-2024 could possibly take place in the third or fourth week of January 2024.

The possibility of conducting CLAT in regional languages has sparked hope for a more inclusive legal education landscape as the legal community waits for the Consortium of National Law Universities to make a final decision, but it has also presented a set of logistical and financial challenges that must be carefully addressed.
