As part of the interim budget presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the Education Ministry's Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSEL) has been allocated Rs. 73,008.10 crore for the 2024-25 fiscal year.

The school education budget is Rs 73,000 crore, while the higher education allocation is Rs 47,619.77 crore. The higher education sector has been cut by 16 %, while the school education allocation is up. The National Education Policy 2020 calls for a 6 % GDP share allocated to education. However, the budget has not yet reached that level. Experts say it will take some time.

  • Allocation for 'Pradhan Mantri Uchhatar Shiksha Protsahan Yojna' (PM-USP): ₹ 1,558 Crore.
  • Allocation for the National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS): ₹ 600 Crore.
  • Allocation for the National Mission in Education through ICT: ₹ 480 Crore.
  • Allocation for Multidisciplinary Education and Research Improvement in Technical Education-EAP (MERITE): Rs.200 crore.
  • Allocation for the Establishment of 3 Centres of Excellence (CoEs) in Artificial Intelligence (AI): ₹ 255 Crore.
